A little bit of life.

Wow, I’ve been so absent from my blog lately!  I haven’t meant to be, but that seems to be how life happens sometimes.  Things have been coming and going, typical life stuff.

In terms of health:  I’m down 20 POUNDS!!!!  It’s been a slow journey, especially because I’ve not been able to work out due to my knee.  But, I’ve really been able to manage my diet, which is good…especially since becoming a vegetarian!  So that makes me really happy.

Remodel:  The remodel hasn’t officially kicked off yet.  We have a designed floor plan we’re going with, and we’re now sorting out the various fixtures and furniture for the bathroom and closet.  We’re getting there, slowly, but I’m very excited to see the finished product.  We decided to go back to my initial idea of brown/black furniture to be continuous with the bedroom, and we’ll probably go with blues, grays, and greens in colors.  Going for a very soothing, spa-like feel.

Transportation:  We’ve done 6-months here with one car, but I think the time has come where we’re considering a second.  I’ve been doing a lot of things after work, so I’ll have the car, and J has been stuck at home with nothing to do while I’m away…which isn’t fair.  So…we’re looking at a second car, just for the occasional run around town when the other car is tied up.  Hopefully we won’t use it a ton, as we probably won’t get another car that’s as fuel-efficient as our Prius.  But…we’re on the hunt, so I hope we find something soon.

Catholic Class:  Catholic class has been going SO well!  I am really enjoying my time there, the things I’m learning, and the discussions and conversations with the other people there.  I just feel so incredibly welcomed there, and I really get a sense of “belonging,” which is exactly what I was looking for.  I definitely think it’s been the right choice for me, even though my mother has been really difficult regarding the decision.  Guess you can’t make everyone happy, right?

That’s about it!  Life in a nutshell.  I’ll try to be better about updating more frequently!  Hopefully I’ll have info on a car this weekend!

Much love,

Knee Surgery and Weight Loss.

Sorry I’ve been so neglectful of this blog for the past few weeks, but life has a way of getting ruining even the best laid plans.  Not in a bad way, just in a “oh!  so you wanted to do X today?  Well, tough shit, you get to do Y instead.  Have fun, sucka!”

Last week was my knee surgery.  After years of putting it off (not to mention years of pain), I finally broke down and had the damn thing fixed.  And by “fixed”…I mean more like “eh, good enough, fixed for now.”  It won’t stay this way forever, but I should get at least 10 years out of it, which is good enough for me at the moment!  Surgery went REALLY well.  I was incredibly impressed with everything having to do with the surgery, including the recovery.  Recovery was easy.  There’s not a better way to describe it.  Hardly any pain, was up walking that day.  Sleeping has been getting easier, but without having the full range of motion that I’m used to, I still struggle to get comfortable.  Otherwise, I couldn’t have asked for better!  J has been SO fabulous during this whole thing…he’s been my go-to for just about everything since last week.  I seriously love that man to death!

I get my stitches out on Friday…finally!  I’ve had to wear these compression tights since the surgery, on both legs.  They are a giant pain in the ass, let me tell you.  Plus, they’re hot as crap, and I’m always burning up at night.  Honestly, the tights, and the IV were the worst part of the whole experience.  LOL.  Once the stitches come out, I imagine he’s going to want to talk physical therapy, so I’ll have to go through that again.  I’m not looking forward to seeing the bill for this, that’s for sure, but I’ve nearly wiped through my deductible for the year, so it shouldn’t be too bad.

In other news…weight loss has been going great!  I stalled for about a month, and really didn’t lose anything (but did maintain the loss), and about three weeks ago I kicked it back in to gear.  I am now down 15 pounds!  When I first started this journey (again), I felt like the weight loss was just insurmountable.  I was at my highest weight, and that was unbearable, but the thought of losing the weight was nearly as unbearable.  Due to some of my medicines, losing weight is incredibly hard, and I just was over always stressing about my weight.  But, moving to a vegetarian diet really helped put things into perspective for me, and helped me get into the right mindset.  I’ve only really been counting calories for the past three months, but it has helped so much!  I’m really happy with my progress, and would like to be down another 10 by Christmas!

So…that’s what’s going on in my life.  Things have been good!  Even with the knee surgery, I feel really happy with the way life is going right now.  My job is going really well (stressful as hell, but I love it), and everything else is just…”good”!  I don’t really have a better explanation!

Hope you all are doing well!

Much love,

Girl Scouts

Since August, I’ve been a Girl Scout troop leader for girls here in the local school.  I have the Daisy Scouts, which are the Kindergarten through First Grade.  I have 5 girls total (4 Kindergarteners, 1 First Grader), and they are absolutely adorable!  It’s incredible to work with such young minds…like giant sponges, always interested in the how and the why…which is really awesome to see!

This week, we’re earning our Light Green Daisy Petal, which is to learn the traits of “Consideration and Caring.”  Usually, each meeting, we discuss the story (Zinni the Zinnia today) and then we do a craft to reiterate the message.  This week, I’ve decided that we’ll make cards to send to a local retirement home.  I thought the cards might brighten someone’s day, which is the whole point of the lesson.

I did a mock-up of the card last night, just so I could get an idea of what the finished product would look like.  What do you think?

Much love,

And here is their finished product!   I’ve cropped out their heads because I don’t have permission from their parents to post their photo online, so that’s why it looks all weird!
